Clinical Faculty

A teacher sits with a student and gives instruction on preferred teaching methods.

Teachers consistently report that their student teaching experience was the most powerful and important part of their preparation program. It's where students' learning about theory and practice is put to the test in the real world, where they begin to truly internalize their roles as future teachers. As the last step in the pre-service learning journey, the student teaching experience needs to be of the highest consistent quality to ensure that these future teachers are well prepared to transition into their future preK-12 classrooms.

Our Clinical Faculty are exemplary preK-12 practitioners identified through a rigorous process to work with VCU pre-service teachers. Through an intense 5-module training based on the New Teacher Center Santa Cruz legacy mentoring model, VCU Clinical Faculty acquire the knowledge, skills and tools needed to support not only pre-service teachers as they become critically reflective practitioners, but novice and veteran teachers, too.
