Mentor Teacher and Instructional Coach Training

Two teachers discuss a point during a training session at a conference.

Designed by the nationally renowned New Teacher Center of Santa Cruz, California, this series of eight days of professional development builds on over two decades of experience by the New Teacher Center in supporting beginning teachers. Through a licensing agreement, the Center for Teacher Leadership offers Year 1 of the series here in Virginia. Framed by the New Teacher Center mentoring philosophy, this powerful Professional Learning Series for Mentors and Coaches provides interactive workshops that focus on the knowledge, skills and understanding critical for those who work with beginning and veteran teachers to improve instruction. This sequenced curriculum includes:

  • Instructional Mentoring for Equitable Learning
  • Using Data to Inform Instruction
  • Observing and Giving Feedback
  • Assessing Growth and Deepening Practice

Although the workshops do not assume prior mentoring or coaching experience, the course content offers learning opportunities that are appropriate for a wide range of experience levels. While not specifically designed for program leaders, they may wish to attend with a team of their mentors in order to adapt the strategies and approaches to their unique program context.

*Unless otherwise stated on the registration form, all workshops will take place at the VCU Center for Teacher Leadership, 3600 West Broad Street, Richmond, Virginia.*
