VCU Names Kim McKnight a 2024 Alumni Star for Impact on the Teacher Shortage and Securing More than $30 Million in Funding

Virginia Commonwealth University has proudly named Kim McKnight, Ph.D., a 2024 Alumni Star, honoring her extraordinary impact on teacher preparation and her unwavering commitment to solving Virginia’s teacher shortage.

Celebrated at a special ceremony on November 15th, Kim was recognized for her visionary leadership of the RTR Teacher Residency program and the Center for Teacher Leadership, where she has secured more than $30 million in funding and expanded the program’s reach to 17 school divisions across the state. Her transformative work has not only reimagined how teachers are trained but also elevated VCU’s role in education innovation, most recently through her leadership in spearheading the launch of Virginia’s first lab school in partnership with CodeRVA.
