Clinical Faculty

Clinical Faculty are exemplary preK-12 practitioners who are able to work with VCU pre-service teachers as an exemplary mentor. These individuals acquire the knowledge, skills, and tools needed through an intensive five-module training based on the New Teacher Center Santa Cruz legacy mentoring model. By undergoing this process, VCU Clinical Faculty help pre-service teachers along with novice and veteran teachers become critically reflective practitioners.

The professional learning requirements include:

  • Participation in all 5 modules. Modules will be virtual via Zoom
  • Successful mentoring/coaching of a preservice, novice, or veteran teacher.
  • Successful completion of learning activities and the assessment process which includes a video recording of a reflective conference and written responses to reflective questions.

For prospective teachers, the student teaching experience marks the last step of their journey and an integral part of their experience. This phase allows for them to combine the theory and practice from their education into the real world to transition them into their future classrooms. If you would like to learn more about becoming Clinical Faculty, please see below.
